Things to do before getting your ceiling fan
Ceiling fans, in one form or another, have
been in existence for centuries. The modern
ceiling fan is over a century old, but today
fans are more popular than they ever were. There
are so many different styles, sizes, colors and
other features to choose from today that it can
be an overwhelming task to do so. However, it
shouldn't be because all of the options
available on ceiling fans today should enable us
to choose a fan that is ideal for the space it
is going to occupy. In addition, installing a
ceiling fan is easier than it has ever been.
The first thing you need to do before selecting
a ceiling fan is to measure the room because
that is what determines the size of the fan you
should buy. If your room is 100 square feet or
less (10 x 10), you should purchase a 36" fan;
for rooms up to 144 square feet, a 42" fan is
what you need; and for rooms between 144 and 225
square feet, a 52" or 54" fan; and a room from
225 and 400 square feet, a 56" fan; and the
largest ceiling fans which span 60" will serve a
room that is 625 square feet.
Some ceiling fans will work outdoors,
unfortunately, there are not many styles to
choose from as yet. However, that will change in
the future, as more people are requesting
outdoor ceiling fans.
An outdoor ceiling fan must be specially
designed, engineered and manufactured so that it
will withstand the elements such as heat, cold,
dust, dry air and humidity in which it must
function. These are the reasons that indoor fans
should never be installed outdoors. If you are
shopping for an outdoor ceiling fan, make sure
you buy one specifically for the outdoors. Also
make sure that you purchase a ceiling fan that
includes a warranty on its outdoor fans.
Ceiling fans can be grouped into general
categories of Retro, Traditional, Contemporary,
Futuristic and Special. One of those styles
should fit into with your décor.
